WHITE HOUSE YOUTH SOCCER

Spring 2024 Important Dates

Hello soccer families!

We want to start by saying thank you to all of you for your constant support in our soccer program.  White House (and surrounding areas) are full of wonderful families, and we are thankful for all of you!  WHYS always strives to provide the best possible program and experience for our soccer families.  We do our very best to provide a program that has families wanting to return each season.  We want to provide a safe place where kids can not only learn the game of soccer, but also make new friends and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!   Nothing brings us more joy than seeing all the smiling faces each week during the season and seeing the kids wear their jerseys out in public.  The people on the WHYS board truly believe in and love our program and our community.

As many of you know, but some may not, the City of White House has been awarded a grant to build a new parking structure for the soccer complex.  This is great news and something our complex desperately needs as we continue to grow our program.  Once the project is complete, we will have around 500 paved parking spaces along with additional ADA spaces in the front parking lot.  This is a huge blessing to our program, and we are thankful to the City of White House for making this happen.  As with any construction projects, there are obstacles.  In order to build this parking structure, they had to dig up a huge part of our current parking area and move excess dirt to other parts of the parking area.  If you have driven by the complex in the last month or so, you have probably seen all of this and know it is taking up a huge amount of space.  With all the construction, we are left with MAYBE 80 spaces in both the front and back lots.  Obviously, that does not leave a lot of room for our almost 50 rec teams and 500 registered rec players families to be able to park.  When we opened registration in the first part of December, the decision to move forward with construction had not been voted on by the city leadership.  We were notified around the end of December that construction was going to begin in January.  Once we were notified, we immediately began discussions on how to move forward and had been in discussion about this issue for weeks.  We have had multiple ideas brought forward of how to try to make the season happen.  We were able to possibly have different locations available for some of our age groups, but nothing was guaranteed to be available for the full season.  We also had to factor in the construction site that is in the parking lot.  Spring weather is always the most unpredictable.  There may end up being construction work being done on the weekends which would interfere with the parking situation even more.  There will also be areas that are unsafe for kids to be around, and construction equipment left on site while all of this is happening.

We come to you today with some unfortunate news.  After hours of deliberation in our board meeting last night, the WHYS board has made the difficult, unanimous decision to cancel the Spring 2024 rec season.  We sat for almost 3 hours last night going over every scenario we could possibly think of and weighing the pros and cons of each idea.  For the first time in a long time, we came to a unanimous decision to cancel this rec season.  We hope you know that this decision was not easy or made lightly.  In fact, it was the hardest decision we have made as a board in a long time.  This project has also forced us to cancel our Spring Classic select tournament as well as play date that was scheduled to be held at our complex for several select teams throughout the state.  We are hopeful it will be ready in time for us to host our summer camps as well.  Once we have all the information ready and in place, there will be messages sent out about receiving refunds or rolling fees over to the Fall 2024 season.

We know this is not what anyone wants to hear, and we are fully aware that this will be upsetting for a lot of our families. We truly value each family that comes through our program, and we hope to see you all back for the Fall 2024 season.  We will (hopefully) have a big, beautiful new parking lot in the fall!  We are going to take this time to try and focus on ways to make our future seasons better for all of you.  We appreciate all of you and thank you for your understanding.
